How DryMark Restoration Astoria Was Born in Astoria
We opened this branch in 2011 because we kept hearing the same story from homeowners in Astoria. A pipe bursts at two in the morning. They call the first company that answers. By noon they’ve got fans running everywhere, a bill climbing by the hour, and no one who can tell them what “dry” actually means or when they’ll hit it.
The moment that stuck with us was a walk-through on 31st Street near Ditmars, late that spring. A family had already paid one crew to dry their basement. The drywall looked fine. The smell said otherwise. We pulled a moisture meter from our bag and found readings in the studs that should have been in the single digits sitting at twenty-two percent. The first company had packed up their fans and left without checking. No photos. No log. No proof of anything. The homeowner’s insurance was already fighting the claim because the documentation was a single handwritten receipt for “dehumidification services.”
That was the gap we came to fill. DryMark Restoration already existed. The Haven Standard already existed. What Astoria needed was a local team that would actually work to it. We promised to bring the meters, keep the logs, and name the price before we started. That was 2011. We’re still doing it.
Alicia Brennan’s Personal Connection to the Damage Restoration Trade
I didn’t stumble into this work. I was pulled into it by the smell of wet plaster and the particular silence of a house that’s been emptied by water damage.
Before DryMark, I spent years in insurance adjusting. I sat across from homeowners who had done everything right, called everyone they were supposed to call, and still found themselves arguing over whether their walls were actually dry. I denied claims not because the work was bad, but because the proof was missing. No photos of the initial damage. No daily moisture readings. No signed log showing the drying curve. Just an invoice and a handshake.
That work taught me what dries and what rots in secret. It also taught me that the people in this trade who knew what they were doing were rarely the ones writing the estimates. They were the ones running the fans at midnight, checking readings, moving equipment when the data said to move it.
I left adjusting because I wanted to be the one holding the meter. I wanted to be the one who could show a homeowner the number that meant their home was safe to rebuild. There’s a specific feeling when you pull a baseboard and find mold that another crew missed, or when you hand someone a twelve-page drying log and watch their insurance adjuster stop asking questions. It’s not triumph. It’s relief. Theirs and mine.
I’ve been in Astoria homes where the heat was off in February and the pipes had just let go. I’ve crawled through crawlspaces in Maspeth where the groundwater never stops. I’ve stood in living rooms in Long Island City while a homeowner cried because they didn’t know if their floors could be saved. Every time, the work is the same: find the water, measure it, remove it, prove it’s gone. The repetition doesn’t make it mechanical. It makes it honest.
If I weren’t doing this, I’d probably be back in adjusting, or trying to teach this trade to people who think restoration is just fans and hope. But this is where I belong. The meter in my hand. The log on the table. The number that tells the truth.
Meet Alicia Brennan - The Person Behind Every Job

I’m Alicia Brennan, Owner and Founder of DryMark Restoration Astoria. I’ve been in the damage restoration trade for over fifteen years, starting in insurance adjusting before moving to the side of the work where I could control the outcome.
My training includes IICRC certification in water damage restoration and applied structural drying. I hold the licenses and insurance required by New York State, and every technician working under our name is required to hold the same. But what matters more to me is the log. The daily moisture reading. The photo timestamped to the minute. The written scope signed before we start.
What makes me different from a corporate franchise technician is that I still answer the phone at two in the morning. I still walk the job before we write the estimate. I still personally review every drying log before we call a job complete. I’m not managing a territory from an office in another state. I’m in Astoria, in the truck, on the job.
Outside of work, I restore vintage furniture. It’s a different kind of drying and sanding and finishing, but the patience is the same. You don’t rush wood. You don’t rush a wall.
My commitment to you is simple: when I hand you our written scope and price, I’m staking my name on it. No surprises. No scope creep. No “while we’re in here.” That’s Haven Standard Clause 1, and it’s how we work.
Before
AfterOur Promise to Astoria Homeowners
Honest pricing means we name the range on the page and lock the number in writing before anyone starts. In 2011, we saw too many Astoria homeowners get an estimate over the phone and a bill that doubled once the crew was inside. Our policy is a written scope with a flat price. If we find something we didn’t expect, we stop and write an amendment. No one works without knowing what it costs.
Quality work means we dry to a number, not a feeling. We use Dri-Eaz equipment and we log every reading. When we leave, you get the photos and the log. Your insurance gets the proof. That’s Haven Standard Clause 4, and it’s what turns a restoration invoice into a claim that gets paid.
Standing behind every job means our warranty is in writing, attached to the scope, with my name on it. If something we dried shows moisture later, we come back. The log tells us what we did. The log tells us what happened.
Our Credentials

- State-licensed - Every pro working under our name is required to hold the license New York State requires for damage restoration work.
- Insured & bonded - Coverage is in place for the protection of your property while we’re in your home.
- Years of local experience - This branch has served Astoria and the surrounding neighborhoods since 2011.
- Strong local reputation - Built job by job, log by log, in the neighborhoods we actually work in.
These credentials matter because damage restoration is invasive work. We’re in your walls, your crawlspace, your living room at vulnerable hours. Licensing means we’ve met the state’s minimum competence bar. Insurance means if something goes wrong, you’re not chasing us for coverage. Experience means we’ve seen the specific ways Astoria buildings fail, from the pre-war plumbing in the 30s blocks to the new construction settling issues in Long Island City. And local reputation means we can’t afford to treat you like a number, because you’re probably two degrees of separation from our last customer.
Our work is also backed by the Haven Standard, which requires written pricing before work starts, documented evidence on every job, and no surprise charges. The standard is what turns a local crew into a crew you can trust with your keys.
Rooted in Astoria
We’ve dried basements from Ditmars Boulevard down to 36th Avenue, from the pre-war co-ops near Astoria Park to the newer builds creeping toward the waterfront. We know which blocks flood first in a heavy rain, which buildings have the old galvanized plumbing that’s waiting to let go, and which supers actually answer their phones at midnight.
Our service area extends to Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, Long Island City, and Maspeth, but Astoria is where we started and where we live. The Greek coffee shops, the Bangladeshi grocers on 30th Avenue, the park at sunset when the Manhattan skyline goes orange. This isn’t where we commute to. It’s where we are.
